Ørsta-Volda Airport is known locally as Hovden Airport. It is situated in Hovdebygda, approximately 12 kilometers from the town center of Ørsta and 8 kilometers from the town center of Volda. The airport offers flights to and from Norway’s capital, Oslo, amongst other destinations. Being a small airport, it ensures quick check-in and baggage handling, allowing you more time to enjoy your vacation.
You'll find several car hire services at the airport ready to cater to your mobility needs. These include well-known global brands. Make sure to compare prices and options before choosing the rental that suits your needs best. In general, it's advisable to book your car online in advance to secure the best deals and ensure availability. When deciding on the class of car, consider factors such as the size of your travel group, the amount of luggage, and the type of terrains you plan to drive on. Many travelers recommend an SUV for comfort and increased ground clearance on hilly roads.
Upon leaving the airport, there are many local spots worth a visit. The towns of Ørsta and Volda are known for their cultural richness, stunning fjords, and mountains. Drive towards the Trollstigen, or 'Troll's Ladder’, one of Norway’s most dramatic and most visited attractions.
There are several gas stations within a 10-kilometer radius of the airport, such as Esso and YX 7-Eleven. It's always a good idea to fill up the tank before setting out on your journey, especially if planning long drives through remote areas.
Norway experiences a temperate oceanic climate, cool summers, and mild winters. So, pack accordingly! As for currency, Norway uses the Norwegian Krone (NOK). You'll find ATM machines at the airport and throughout the cities for your convenience.
Aside from the hubs of Ørsta and Volda, the airport serves as a gateway to many other vibrant cities in Western Norway. These include larger cities like Bergen and Ålesund, as well as a plethora of quaint villages and local communities waiting to be explored. Each offers its unique cultural experiences, culinary delights, and natural wonders.
Have a fantastic trip and enjoy driving through the stunning landscapes of Western Norway!
