Aspen, famed as a celebrity winter getaway, is a small city nestled within the Elk Mountains branch of Rockies in the state of Colorado. However, it is not just the skiing that attracts millions each year, summer in Aspen brings in mountain bikers, hikers, and nature lovers making it a year-round holiday destination.
In Aspen, the modes of transport are as varied as its activities––you can bike, take the bus, or drive. Renting a car, however, lets you explore at your own pace. Keep in mind that traffic flows on the right-hand side of the road, and you're required to wear seatbelts at all times. Always adhere to speed limits, which are typically 75 mph on highways, 65 mph on expressways, and 25-30 mph in residential areas unless otherwise posted. While downtown's narrow, Victorian-era streets can be a challenge, most parking in Aspen is free.
Since Aspen is located in mountainous region, SUVs or 4WD vehicles are highly recommended especially during the winter months for a safe and comfortable trip.
Aspen enjoys a semi-arid climate. While winters are chilly with heavy snowfall ideal for winter sports, summer months (June through August) are warm and mild perfect for outdoor activities. Keep an eye on weather updates during your visit to plan your activities efficiently.
The currency in Aspen, as in the rest of the USA, is the US dollar (USD). Credit and debit cards are widely accepted, and ATMs are readily available.
With your rental car, exploring nearby cities and attractions is convenient. Don't miss out on visiting the Independence Ghost Town, an abandoned old mining town just a short drive from Aspen, or Glenwood Springs, renowned for its large hot springs pool.
