Bristol is the unofficial capital of the West of England. Famous for its maritime history, it also offers a wide and varied range of attractions, hotels, bars and events. Although often overlooked as a tourist destination, Bristol has much to offer and is an excellent starting point for exploring the "West Country", with relatively inexpensive accommodation compared to some of the "tourist traps" such as the nearby Bath and a huge selection of bars, restaurants and shops. The airport is located about 11 km southwest of downtown Bristol on the A38 motorway and can also be reached via the nearby Motorway M5. The A4' Air Decker' line operated by Bath Bus Company connects the airport to the southern suburbs of Bristol, Keynsham and Bath. Since 2016, Stagecoach South West has operated a regular bus service from the airport to Bristol, Bridgwater, Taunton, Exeter and Plymouth.
