If you rent a car, you need liability insurance with a sufficiently high sum insured. We recommend at least one million euros. Each of our offers automatically includes this insurance. Which damage sum is covered by the liability insurance , see the rental conditions of the respective vehicle. In addition, we offer you further insurance policies that you can take out voluntarily:
You want to avoid unpredictable costs in case of damage to your car? Then choose comprehensive cover without excess. With this insurance you do not have to pay anything in addition in the event of scratches, accident damage or the like, as all potential claims are already covered by the insurance amount paid. If you return a damaged rental car, the car rental company will not refund the full deposit, but will deduct the amount for the damage beforehand. With a fully comprehensive insurance without excess, however, your rental car agent will reimburse you the money.
With the conclusion of a rental agreement you agree the amount of the deposit. You deposit these at the car rental when you pick up the rental car. Your rental company retains the amount for security and refunds it when you return the vehicle. In most cases, the deposit will be debited from your credit card.
If you want to explore Ireland on your own, you can use the one-way rental. You start at one station of the car rental and end your journey at a second station. A return journey to the starting point is therefore not necessary. For example, you can use the one-way rental to take the Wild Atlantic Way along the west coast of Ireland or take a road trip across the country to the capital Dublin.
If you are accompanied by an adult with a driving licence on your trip to Ireland, you can register him as an additional driver. This also protects him from the insurance and he is allowed to drive the rental car cheaply. This allows you to take turns at the wheel on the road, which is particularly pleasant on longer journeys.
In Ireland, where left-hand traffic prevails, these speed limits apply:
Road category | highest speed |
---|---|
Inner cities | 50 km/h |
outside | 80 km/h |
National roads | 100 km/h |
Motorway | 120 km/h |
Immerse yourself in Galway's past on a visit to the Spanish Arch. The massive archway dates from the 16th century and was built as part of the former city wall . It is located directly at the mouth of the river Corrib into the Atlantic Ocean. Visitors enjoy a beautiful view over the sea and the city from here.
The Irish port city is home to one of the youngest cathedrals in the world. The cathedral of Galway was not built until the middle of the 20th century, but seems older because of its Gothic, Romanesque and Byzantine influences. The imposing domed building made of unplastered stone can be easily reached by rental car.
Galway is known for its lively festivals and events. Depending on your travel time, you can visit the summer horse race Galway Races, for example. Seafood lovers love to travel here in September to take part in the International Oyster and Seafood Festival. The city is also known for its unique cultural and artistic scene. Every year in July the Galway Film Fleadh and the Galway Arts Festival take place here. If there is no public event on the programme during your stay, simply enjoy typical Irish live music in one of the many pubs. Here you can also feel the joie de vivre of the Irish every day.
Galway is only about 80 kilometres from what is probably Ireland's most famous attraction, the Cliffs of Moher. If you rent a rental car, you will reach the majestic cliffs on the Atlantic after about an hour and a half's drive.
