Ivato International Airport (TNR), located in the capital city of Madagascar, Antananarivo, is the main international gateway to this beautiful island nation. The airport is situated 16 km north of Antananarivo and offers various services such as lounges, restaurants and shops.
Upon arrival, you'll find several car rental agencies located at the airport, providing you with a wide range of vehicles to choose from. Opt for a compact car for city driving or a 4X4 if you're planning to explore Madagascar's rugged landscapes. Remember to book in advance during high season to ensure vehicle availability.
There are several petrol stations near the airport. Just a few kilometers away, you'll find the Total service station, offering both petrol and diesel options. Always check your car's fuel type before filling up to avoid mishandling.
From the airport, it’s a relatively straight route to the capital city Antananarivo. Depending on traffic, the trip can take between 30 and 50 minutes. Please be aware that driving in Madagascar can be challenging due to road conditions and driving habits, so always stay alert and drive with care.
Madagascar has a tropical climate, with a rainy season from November to April and a dry season from May to October. Pack accordingly!
The local currency is the Malagasy Ariary (MGA). ATMs are available at the airport and throughout Antananarivo, but it's good practice to have some local currency on hand as not all places accept card payments.
There’s more to Madagascar than just Antananarivo. Some of the nearest cities worthy of a visit include Antsirabe, a city famous for its thermal springs and Ambohimanga, a historical village with a royal hill.
We look forward to welcoming you to Madagascar and starting your fantastic journey aboard your rental car!
