Majority of visitors arrive via Kona International Airport (KOA), located just 15 minutes north of the town. Numerous rental car companies operate from the airport, offering everything from compact cars to SUVs.
Driving in Kailua-Kona is a pleasure, thanks to the well-maintained roads and breathtaking scenery. The maximum speed limit is 55 mph on highways and 25 mph in residential areas. Always be observant - pedestrians in crosswalks have right-of-way and it's illegal to use a cellphone while driving.
Most hotels offer complementary parking for guests. For exploring the town, there are several large pay-to-park lots and street parking is also available. Remember to never leave valuables in sight when you park.

Kailua-Kona features a tropical climate with warm temperatures all year round. The wettest months are November to March, while the driest are from April to October. Always remember to protect yourself from the sun and stay hydrated.
