Kapalua Airport, also known as JHM, is a regional private-use airport dedicated largely to interisland flights. Being located on the west side of Maui, the airport offers perfect proximity to popular resort areas like Lahaina, Kaanapali, and, of course, Kapalua itself.
Getting around Maui is easiest with a rental car. Fortunately, Kapalua Airport hosts several car rental companies ready to get you on the road. Some of the most established ones include Hertz, Enterprise, and Budget.
To avoid last-minute stress, we recommend booking your rental car in advance. This ensures that you can hit the road immediately upon arrival and lends more time to the fun part: exploring!
Driving on Maui offers a rewarding experience with a chance to see the island's beautiful landscapes at your own pace. Remember, though, that while the island is small, speed limits are low and traffic can slow down the journey.
Running on empty? Don't fret! There are several gas stations near the airport including Shell, Tesoro, and Chevron, to keep your journeys powered.
Enjoy tropical weather all year round in Maui, with warm temperatures balancing between 75°F and 85°F. With rainfall typically concentrated in the island's northeast, the area surrounding Kapalua Airport is largely warm and sunny.
As a part of the United States, Hawaiian islands use the U.S. dollar. It's recommended to have a small amount of cash on hand for situations where credit cards aren't accepted, although these are rare.
Use your rental car to explore the island's charming cities - Lahaina, Kihei, Wailuku, and Kahului are just a short drive away. Each city brings a unique flair with Lahaina's bustling front street, Kihei's beautiful beaches, Wailuku's quaint Iao Valley, and Kahului's bustling harbor.
If you're headed to neighboring islands after your stay in Maui, Kapalua airport offers flights to Honolulu, Kailua-Kona, and Lanai City, amongst others.
We hope you savor your stay on Maui and the adventure it offers. Remember, in Hawaii, every journey is a part of the destination!
