Land at Mahe Airport (SEZ) and explore the largest island of Seychelles with your own rental car Mahe? If so, you should definitely rent your rental car at one of the four car hire companies at Mahe Airport before you start your journey, due to the high demand. Compare car hire from home with Car rentalCheck the best deals on car rental from home, from mid-size cars to airport car rental SUVs, and start traveling to Tropical Islands right after your arrival.
If your car rental at Mahe Airport does not have a counter in the arrivals hall, you do not have to take a taxi to the office of your car rental company, as the service staff will bring your rented car to the airport, where you will often have to sign another rental agreement.
Most of the following car rental companies are present during the usual opening hours, but will also hand over the rental car to you at a later date if your flight is delayed. You will find the following car rental companies at the airport:
Should you have to return your rental car with a full tank of fuel, you will find a petrol station directly opposite the airport building, which is only open until 9 pm. In addition, there are now several other petrol stations on the island, located in Anse Royale, Bai Lazare, between Grand Anse and Barbarons, between Pascal Village and Beau Vallon and near Eden Island on the way to Victoria.
Our tip: When renting a rental car, be sure to pay attention to a fair fuel tank arrangement, as it is not usual in Seychelles to hand over a fully refuelled rental car, so that you could be left lying in bed with a late arrival, possibly with an empty tank.
Although Mahe with a length of only 24 km is quite manageable and attracts mostly sun-hungry guests with its paradisiacal beaches, there is a lot more to do than just enjoy the view of the sea under shady trees. In Victoria, the lively capital, in particular, you will find a botanical garden, a beautiful clock tower, a splendid Hindu temple and a market that you should never miss. To help you find your way around the island a little easier, we have put together some distance information below.
Place name | Distance from Mahe Airport (SEZ) | Travel time |
---|---|---|
Victoria city center | 9,9 km | 16 minutes |
Quatre Bornes | 16,9 km | 30 minutes |

If you don't want to be mobile with your rental car from day one, you can of course also take a taxi to Victoria. The cost is about 75 SR, with a surcharge for journeys during the night, so that the journey costs 100 SR. During the day you can also take the bus to the capital city, which runs every 20 to 30 minutes at a cost of 3 SR.
With just over 600,000 passengers per year, Mahe Airport is a cosy place to stay, so that you will feel like you are on holiday when you arrive at the airport. However, you have to do without an extensive range of restaurants and cafés, although there is still something to eat and drink for the little hunger.
Even if you would like to spend a relaxing beach holiday on Mahe, you should make some excursions with a rented car or go on a tour of the island. Make a detour to the botanical garden in the south of the country, take a look at the Takamaka Rum distillery, drive to the highest mountain on the island, the Morne Blanc, and if the weather is right, you might go for an impressive walk in the fog or drive your rental car to the northernmost point of the island and relax a little on the beautiful Sunset Beach.
Normally, an international driver's license is not required when renting a rental car in Seychelles. However, if you want to be on the safe side, it is advisable to apply for one early enough in your home town.
Unfortunately, this is not possible, so if you want to transfer your rental car to Praslin, it is better to leave it in your hotel.
In general, the Seychelles has a maximum speed of 40 km/h, except for the 65 km/h expressway from the airport to Victoria.
