The Marsa Alam International Airport (RMF) is the third major gateway to Egypt's Red Sea Governorate. Opened in 2001, it's the newest airport in the region and the first privately owned airport in Egypt. Despite being relatively small, it provides modern and efficient services to travelers from all over the world.
Getting on the road from Marsa Alam International airport is hassle-free. There are several international and local car rental companies located at the airport. If you book ahead, your chosen car will be ready for pick-up when you land.
The region is known for its excellent road conditions, and any vehicle class would handle it well. However, we recommend compact cars for city driving and SUVs if you're planning to explore the desert areas.
Upon exiting the airport, you'll be on the RMF-Marsa Alam Road that leads to the city of Marsa Alam. The route is straightforward and well-signposted.
There’s a Petrol Station situated not far from the airport, along the RMF-Marsa Alam Road. It's a convenient stop for refuelling before you commence your journey.
The official currency is the Egyptian Pound (EGP), and it's advised to have some cash on hand. Marsa Alam enjoys a hot desert climate offering sunny skies throughout the year. Port Ghalib and El Quseir are bustling tourist destinations situated only an hour drive from the airport.
The airport offers facilities such as ramps, special check-in desks and equipped toilets to cater for passengers with reduced mobility. Regarding connectivity, Marsa Alam airport is connected to several European cities through direct flights and to the rest of Egypt through domestic connections.
We hope this guide helps you to kick start your vacation smoothly. Drive safe and enjoy all the splendors Marsa Alam and its surroundings have to offer.
