The Oshikoto Region, located in northern Namibia, is rich with natural beauty and cultural heritage. Notably, it hosts the grand Lake Otjikoto and historical mines, attracting enthusiasts for its rich biodiversity and historical importance. Multi-lingual signs will assist you, with English being widely spoken.
Most of the roads in Oshikoto are gravel. The B1 and B8 roads, connecting key places, are well-maintained and tarred. A vehicle with higher ground clearance, like a SUV, is recommended for off-road driving.
The general speed limit is 60 km/h in urban areas and up to 120 km/h on highways. Be cautious: animals may often straddle the road. Driving is on the left side, and seat belts are mandatory.
Oshikoto has a semi-arid climate, with a rainy season from November to March. The best time to visit is during the dry season, from May to October, when wildlife spotting is prime.
The Namibian Dollar (NAD) is the local currency. Credit cards are accepted in most places. Gas stations, however, often prefer or only accept cash.
You can join in the local celebrations such as Independence Day in March, or Heroes' Day in August. They are great opportunities to understand Namibian culture and heritage.
Prepare yourself for an amazing journey in Oshikoto Region with your rental car. Adventure awaits, see you on the road!
