Puerto Jiménez Airport (PJM), located on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica, serves as an access point for tourists from all over the world. The town of Puerto Jiménez, where the airport is located, was once a gold mining and logging community, and is now the largest town on the Osa Peninsula.
There are various car rental services available right at the airport. It is recommended to book your rental car in advance, to ensure you get the car class and brand of your choice after your arrival. Taking a car rental affords the most flexibility for exploring the surroundings at your own pace.
Puerto Jiménez’s terrain is suited to all vehicle types but a 4x4 might be preferable due to the rough roads in some surrounding areas. There are plenty of service providers where you can choose your preferred class of vehicles including economy, compact, intermediate, or luxury cars.
There are a few gas stations located within a 5-minute driving distance from the Puerto Jiménez Airport. These gas stations operate 24/7 providing you with the flexibility to fill up as per your convenience.
Tip: Please remember, gas prices in Costa Rica are regulated by the government and are usually the same across all gas stations.
The routes are well lit and signposted in Spanish. Note that Costa Rica follows the right-hand driving rule. The drive from Puerto Jiménez Airport to the town center is short and typically takes about 5 minutes.
The region enjoys a tropical monsoon climate. Make sure to bring lightweight, breathable clothing no matter when you visit. Costa Rica’s currency is the colón, but many places, especially those catering to tourists, accept American dollars as well.
Costa Rica is popular for its teeming rainforests, stunning beaches, and diverse wildlife. From Puerto Jiménez, drive your rental car to the Corcovado National Park, famous for its biodiversity. Visit the charming fishing village of Golfito or the soothing Uvita Waterfall for an enriching experience.
