Your credit card will be charged with the deposit when you pick up the car. If you return it undamaged, the car rental company will return the money to your card.
If you are not travelling alone but with at least one other adult, you can register this person as an additional driver when renting a vehicle.This is what you do when you pick up your rental car in Rio de Janeiro. For this purpose, the additional driver presents his driving licence and identity card. Afterwards, he is covered by the insurance, just like the driver, and may drive the rental car legally.
