After touching down at VC Bird, getting on the road is a cinch. There are several rental car services located directly at the airport for your convenience including international names you know and trust. Don't fret about driving on the left - rental cars are equipped with steering wheels on the right to suit Antigua and Barbuda's driving laws.
For solo travelers or couples, a compact class car can be more than sufficient. Its small size allows for easy maneuverability and parking. Families or groups may prefer a larger sedan or van for additional space and comfort. If you're feeling adventurous, consider renting a 4x4 to really explore Antigua's backroads and hidden gems.
From VC Bird International Airport, St. John's is a mere 15-minute drive away. The Sir George Walter Highway and Sir Sydney Walling Highway are the two main routes which connect the airport to the city and other key locations on the island.
With its tropical marine climate, Antigua and Barbuda is warm and sunny all year round. The official currency is the East Caribbean Dollar, although US Dollars are widely accepted.
From your arrival at VC Bird International Airport, all the delights of Antigua are within easy reach by car. Discover the historic charm of St. John's, enjoy the stunning beaches of Dickenson Bay and Half Moon Bay, or explore the rainforest in the southwestern part of the island.
Refueling your rental car is made easy with several gas stations close to the airport. Two of the closest include Rubis and Sol, both located on Sir George Walter Highway.
Always remember to drive on the left. And while the main roads in Antigua are in good condition, some smaller roads can be unpaved and rough. A GPS is highly recommended for navigating the islands.
